Art Director

Are you a highly skilled and experienced Art Director / Senior Graphic Designer with a passion for managing a team of designers to bring concepts to life?  Do you thrive in a collaborative environment and possess a keen eye for detail? 

Our client is a prominent New Zealand brand, who are looking for a contract Art Director to join their team.  You will work with a vibrant, creative team in their Newmarket, Auckland office.

This is a one year fixed term contracting starting July 2026. They offer flexible 2 days per week WFH, after the initial onboarding period, which will be inhouse full time.

On the day to day you will work across:

Design & Production

  • Responsible for managing and supporting graphic designers to bring concepts and presentations to life with high visual impact.
  • Collaborate on the ideation and development of innovative marketing campaigns. 
  • Participate in the execution of the entire creative process within an allotted timeframe.
  • Work closely with the Motion Director to review and continue to develop the brand and product brands as well as ensuring all multi-channel work is cohesive.
  • Stay on top of the latest standards, processes, and trends in the visual design field.

 

Workflow & Process

  • Provide back-up support to the Head of Creative Services on team workflow and administration when required.
  • As a senior member of the Creative team you will lead by example ensuring the correct creative workflow process is followed (including file management).
  • Actively look for ways to continuously improve ways of working to drive greater efficiency and creative delivery.
  • Ensure work is delivered on time and on brief.
  • Support the implementation of new automation and creative development technologies within the team. 

 

Relationship Management & Leadership

  • Oversee and approve the work of four direct reports and provide mentorship to the Creative team
  • Drive a strong positive culture within the creative team and proactively address any issues.
  • Actively develop collaborative and productive working relationships with key external suppliers and agencies
  • Excellent working relationships with Marketing, Corporate Communications, Executive and Retail teams in particular.
  • Lead presentations and effectively communicate a creative vision.

 

Your Skills and Experience

  • Detail oriented
  • Innovative and creative approach to brand and design work
  • Excellent understanding of design and the design process
  • Thorough knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Knowledge of Cinema 4D and After Effects is a bonus
  • Well-developed relational ability, enabling the building of strong partnerships to achieve key goals
  • The ability to interpret numerical and technical information, and to solve problems using systematic methods
  • Sound understanding of offset and digital print process along with a good understanding of web design and digital executions
  • Leadership
